Called into His Light:

Living in Relationship with Jesus

This morning, I set out for a walk on the beach with a heart full of praise for the Lord. The waves gently rolled onto the shore, and the sky was a blue so stunning it felt like a personal reminder of His glory. I couldn’t help but thank Him for the beauty around me. As I walked, soaking in the peaceful rhythm of His creation, my heart lifted in worship, and I felt His presence drawing near.

The Lord opened my heart and eyes to see something so profound yet so simple: as His Body of Believers on earth, our role is to embody His presence in this world through faith, stillness, courage, and obedience. He showed me that the path to living out His will is paved with trust and surrender.

“Fear not.” These words echoed in my spirit. The weight of the command struck me—it’s not just a suggestion but a call to fully trust Him, even when circumstances seem uncertain or overwhelming. The Bible reminds us of this truth in Isaiah 41:10:
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
In every situation, His presence is our assurance, and His promises are our anchor.

“Be still, stand firm, and seek My face.” I heard, as He reminded me that we don’t need to strive or fight in our own strength. When we quiet our hearts and focus on Him, we position ourselves to hear His voice and receive His guidance. God’s Word assures us of His subtle yet clear guidance in Isaiah 30:21:
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
This verse reminds us that God speaks softly, guiding us in the right path when we seek Him with attentiveness. Jesus further reinforces this in John 10:27:
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
This intimate relationship between the Lord and His followers assures us that we can recognise His voice and trust His guidance.

Exodus 14:14 captures this beautifully:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Stillness before God is an act of trust, where we relinquish control and allow His gentle voice to lead us forward.

Jesus’ Call to Relationship

When we live in relationship with the Lord, He takes His rightful place in our lives and hearts—first place, above all else. The depth of this relationship is revealed throughout Scripture:

Galatians 4:6-7 says:
“Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
We are not merely servants but cherished children of God. He desires an intimate connection, allowing us to call Him “Abba,” the loving term for Father.

God invites us to draw near to Him, as James 4:8 promises:
“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
When we seek Him with sincere hearts, He promises to come near and guide us into deeper fellowship.

This relationship is not about religious acts but genuine love and devotion. Hosea 6:6 reminds us:
“For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.”
God values our hearts and our desire to know Him above outward rituals.

Jesus calls us His friends in John 15:15:
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
This speaks to the closeness He desires with us, a relationship of trust and open communication.

At the heart of it all is the greatest commandment, as Jesus says in Matthew 22:37-38:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”
He wants our whole being to reflect love for Him, placing Him above everything else in our lives.

God’s desire for relationship is clear in Jeremiah 31:33:
“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. ‘I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.’”
He longs to dwell in our hearts, shaping us from within and calling us His people.

Finally, Jesus’ words in Revelation 3:20 offer a personal invitation:
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
This verse beautifully illustrates the fellowship He seeks with us—a close, shared relationship where He walks with us daily.

Living in His Light

As we surrender to Him, seeking Him above all else, Jesus equips us to reflect His light into the world. He said in Matthew 5:14-16:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This light isn’t ours but His, shining through us as we live in relationship with Him.

Jesus’ second commandment complements this call to reflect His light. In Matthew 22:39, He says:
“And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’”
Our love for others is a tangible expression of His presence within us. When we demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)—we are living examples of His light. This love extends His grace and truth into the lives of those around us, glorifying His name through our actions.

As we obey His voice and seek Him daily, He not only guides our steps but also empowers us to share His love in practical and transformative ways. In doing so, we fulfill our role as His light-bearers, bringing hope to the world and pointing others to the source of all goodness—our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling us into a personal relationship with You.

Help us to place You first in our lives and hearts, above all else.

Teach us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbours as ourselves.

Shine Your light through us, Lord, so that others may see Your glory and be drawn to You.

May we walk in trust and obedience, seeking Your will and reflecting Your love in all we do.

In Jesus’ holy name, we pray. Amen.
